Petition of George S. Cobb Post No. 63, Grand Army of the Republic, 1893.

1893 petition from the GAR Post at Camden, Me., to Maine governor Henry B. Cleaves, requesting the appointment of Leroy T. Carleton of Winthrop to the post of Insurance Commissioner. The Civil War veterans requested his appointment "as we understand he is the only candidate for that place who was a soldier." The petition is signed in pencil by thirty-five Union veterans residing in Camden.
